The idea

Built for your local library.

Rythune does not need an account to organise and play your music. Your library is built from the audio files already stored on your Android device — it is designed around a local-first experience.

  • Offline-first

Your library, playback, search and history all work without a connection.

  • Local library

Built from the MP3 and FLAC files already stored on your Android device.

  • No account required

No sign-up, no profile, no subscription to start listening.

  • Fast search

An on-device full-text index returns songs, albums and artists as you type.

  • Background playback

Audio keeps running with the screen off, controlled from the lock screen.

  • Personalized local discovery

Home sections are generated from your own play counts — no recommendation service involved.

Features

Everything a local library needs.

One player for browsing, searching, queueing and keeping track of what you actually listen to.

  • Local music library

Rythune scans the MP3 and FLAC files already on your device, reads their tags and embedded artwork, and builds a searchable library.

  • Smart Home

Quick Picks, Continue Listening, Recently Played, Most Played, Recently Added and more — every rail built from your own listening.

  • Powerful search

Offline full-text search with prefix matching across songs, albums and artists, plus a fallback pass so nothing gets missed.

  • Rich playback

Queue management, shuffle, repeat, playback speed from 0.5× to 2×, a sleep timer, and playback that keeps going in the background.

  • Lock-screen controls

A media notification and lock-screen controls let you skip, pause and resume without reopening the app.

  • Playlists

Create, reorder and manage playlists from your local library — including saving the current queue as a new playlist.

  • Favorites

Like a song from anywhere in the app and reach everything you have liked from one place.

  • Listening history

Play counts and completions are recorded on-device, and they are what makes the personalized Home sections work.

  • Light, Dark and System

Two full themes that follow your Android setting and switch live when the system theme changes.

  • Built for large libraries

Indexed queries, fixed-height rows and cached artwork keep scrolling smooth on libraries of roughly 10,000 tracks.

Offline first

Your music library lives on your device.

Rythune scans your local audio files and builds a searchable library without requiring a cloud music account. Nothing has to be uploaded for the app to work.

  • MP3 and FLAC files are read from device storage, in place
  • Track titles, artists, albums and embedded artwork come from the files' own tags
  • Files you delete are pruned on the next scan, so the library stays honest
  • A scan that returns nothing is treated as a failure — your library is never wiped by a flaky read

Personalized local discovery

A home screen that learns your listening.

The Home dashboard is generated from listening data recorded on your device — play counts, completions and when you last heard something. No recommendation service, no profile, no AI.

One library

Everything you own, in one place.

Songs, albums, artists, folders, playlists and favorites live behind a single row of chips — switch category without leaving the screen.

Categories

  • Songs
  • Albums
  • Artists
  • Folders
  • Playlists
  • Favorites

Sort by

  • Title
  • Artist
  • Album
  • Recently Added
  • Most Played
  • Duration

Every sort runs in either direction, and your choice is remembered per category. Switch between a roomy list view and a compact view, or long-press to multi-select and act on many tracks at once.

Playback

Playback without compromise.

The queue is yours to rearrange, the controls stay reachable with the screen off, and a file that has gone missing gets skipped instead of stopping the music.

  • Queue

See what is coming and reorder it by dragging

  • Play next & add to queue

Slot a track in without losing your place

  • Shuffle

Reshuffle the queue at any point

  • Repeat

Off, one track, or the whole queue

  • Playback speed

0.5× to 2×, useful well beyond music

  • Sleep timer

Presets, a custom duration, or end of track

  • Audio ducking

Steps aside for navigation and calls, then returns

  • Skip recovery

A broken or moved file is skipped instead of stalling

  • Background playback

A foreground service keeps audio running

  • Lock-screen controls

Transport controls from the notification shade

Privacy

Music that stays close to you.

Rythune is designed primarily around music stored on your Android device. Your local library, playlists, favorites and listening history are managed locally within the app.

  • Stored on your device

Your library, playlists, favorites and listening history are kept in a database inside the app's own storage.

  • No account required

There is no sign-up, no profile and no login. Nothing needs to be created before you can play a file.

  • Built for offline listening

Scanning, browsing, searching and playback all work with no network connection at all.

  • Written down, not implied

What the app accesses and why is set out in the privacy policy rather than summarised in a slogan.

Under the hood

Fast by design.

A music player earns its keep in the first 200 milliseconds. These are the choices that keep a large library feeling immediate.

  • SQLite + WAL modeReads stay fast while the library is being written to
  • FTS5 full-text indexSearch results the moment you stop typing, fully offline
  • Indexed queriesHome sections load as queries, never duplicated rows
  • Artwork LRU cacheCovers resolve once and stay warm while you scroll
  • Fixed-height virtualised rowsLong lists scroll without jitter
  • Throttled progress updatesThe seek bar ticks without re-rendering the screen

Together they are what makes an architecture ready for libraries of roughly 10,000 tracks — long lists that scroll cleanly, and Home sections that appear rather than load.

Compatibility

Made for Android.

Built as an Android app, using Android's own media, notification and theming systems rather than working around them.

  • Android media access

Rythune asks for audio-media access so it can read the music files stored on your device. Nothing is uploaded as part of scanning.

  • Background playback

Playback runs in an Android foreground service, so audio continues when you leave the app or lock the screen.

  • Lock-screen & notification controls

A media notification exposes play, pause and skip, and responds to headset and Bluetooth media buttons.

  • Light, Dark and System themes

The app follows your Android theme setting and reacts when the system switches.

  • Accessibility

Controls carry accessibility labels and are exercised with TalkBack. Accessibility work is ongoing — tell us what is not working.

  • OEM battery managers

Some Android manufacturers stop background services aggressively. If playback stops after you swipe the app away, allow Rythune to run in the background in your system settings.
