What happens after you install.

Four steps, once. After that the app opens straight into your library.

    Install and open

    Rythune opens straight into the app — there is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

  2. 02

    Allow access to audio

    Android asks once for permission to read audio media. Without it the app cannot see your music files; nothing is uploaded as a result of granting it.

  3. 03

    Let the first scan run

    Your MP3 and FLAC files are read in place, along with their tags and embedded artwork, and indexed on the device. Bigger libraries take longer the first time only.

  4. 04

    Start listening

    Home fills in as you play. Sections with nothing to show yet stay hidden until there is something to put in them.

One Android caveat worth knowing. Some manufacturers shut down background services aggressively to save battery. If playback stops when you swipe the app away from recents, allow Rythune to run in the background in your device's battery settings.

Made for Android.

Built as an Android app, using Android's own media, notification and theming systems rather than working around them.

  • Android media access

    Rythune asks for audio-media access so it can read the music files stored on your device. Nothing is uploaded as part of scanning.

  • Background playback

    Playback runs in an Android foreground service, so audio continues when you leave the app or lock the screen.

  • Lock-screen & notification controls

    A media notification exposes play, pause and skip, and responds to headset and Bluetooth media buttons.

  • Light, Dark and System themes

    The app follows your Android theme setting and reacts when the system switches.

  • Accessibility

    Controls carry accessibility labels and are exercised with TalkBack. Accessibility work is ongoing — tell us what is not working.

  • OEM battery managers

    Some Android manufacturers stop background services aggressively. If playback stops after you swipe the app away, allow Rythune to run in the background in your system settings.
